Pierzynski with two outs in the eighth Thursday night to lead the Chicago White Sox past the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 4-3.Pierzynski had three hits, two of them doubles, and drove in a run for the Sox, who jumped on Angels starter Jon Garland for three runs in the second inning. Paul Konerko and Jermaine Dye each scored a run for Chicago, which has won five of its last eight games.White Sox starter Javier Vazquez went 6 2/3 innings, giving up three runs on nine hits with no walks and six strikeouts. Octavio Dotel (2-2) pitched 1 1/3 innings in relief to get the win.Garland gave up three runs on seven hits over six innings with four walks and one strikeout.]]></description>

After Colorado closed within 5-3, the Diamondbacks broke the game open with a three-run eighth that featured a two-run triple by Justin Upton.The Rockies scored twice in the ninth and brought the tying run to the plate, but Brandon Lyon retired three in a row for his 12th save.Webb allowed three runs on seven hits in 7 1/3 innings. There were 34 players still on the course when darkness suspended the action, but none of them was in position to change the top of the leaderboard.Perry bounced back from his disappointing finish at last week's Players Championship, where he shot an 81 in the final round and fell from second place to a tie for 15th.]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[Annika Sorenstam, two days after announcing her upcoming retirement from competitive golf, shared the lead Thursday after one round of the Sybase Classic.After her announcement Tuesday that she would step down at the end of this season, she threw out the first pitch at a New York Mets game and appeared on a late-night, network television show.She then went out Thursday and shot a 5-under 67 at the Upper Montclair Country Club and was tied for the lead with Song-Hee Kim and Rachel Hetherington.Two-time defending champion Lorena Ochoa, who has supplanted Sorenstam as the No. 1 player in women's golf, was one shot back.It's been a busy week, so it was kind of nice this morning to tee off and then walk inside the ropes, Sorenstam said.]]></description>
